The True Story Of The Dale Bamber Show

As you know the history of the show is on this website….but how did I get into radio? What made me want to persue a career in radio? Well find out below as for the first time since the show began I reveal the truth…this is The True Story Of The Dale Bamber Show!

Date written: 30th may 2008.

Growing up I’d always had a place for entertainment, but never saw that it could make a career for me. From a family of graduates and career minded people I was unsure of how breaking the mould would be. From school I decided on a plumbing career but still had the yearning for my name in lights and screaming, adoring fans - but then who doesn’t?

One boxing day sat at home I had an urge to ring into Century FM and request a song - how hard could it be right? I was waiting on line and then out of nowhere my nerves got the better of me and I bottled it. I felt an instant relief until my hone rang. God they’d rung me back! Should I just ignore it? While all these thoughts were racing through my mind I found myself answering the phone. D’OH! I had to go through with it now! As I began talking to the DJ I found my nerves just went. I ended up on air for 5 minutes…and I loved it! What a buzz. My yearning was now stranger than ever, yet life carried on as normal.

A few days later my phone was ringing, from a withheld number. I don’t usually answer withheld calls but I was drawn to do so…and I am glad I did - it was Pat Sharp (Yes he presented Fun House and Top Of The Pops!) He was inviting me Dale Bamber on his show. Could this lead to my big break or would it just be a fun day? Either way I knew immediately I’d be going on! Pat gave me some questions to ask him…some of which were a little corny shall we say but hey not everyone can shoot to fame on the X Factor can they? After the show Pat told me I’d be great on the radio and should peruse a career in the business! He inspired me to go into Ribble Valley Radio and ask for a job - a little forward I know but my mum always told me if you don’t ask you don’t get! To my surprise they gave me a job on the spot…Brilliant I was in!

I was so nervous on my first show. So much that people thought that it was pre-recorded I’d practiced that hard! The second show had to be better. I decided not to practice at all! It worked second show was a hit. I’d started to become known on the airwaves for my love of Girls Aloud and within a few months I had the idea of Girls Aloud Heaven - a 6 hour show dedicated to them. This helped make the show the success that it is today. My show was advertised of their official website! Soon after the 6 hour show the fan letters began to arrive and it was everything I’d ever wanted!

Ribble valley Radio sadly came to an end and my show was the last show to broadcast on the station so it ended on a high. It couldn’t all end there though…not for me! I needed more. Plumbing just wouldn’t do anymore - I wanted different things. I made the hardest - yet surprisingly easiest decision of my life - to drop plumbing, in pursuit of a career in media.

In September I’m off to college and shortly I’ll again have my own show on the new radio station Ribble Valley Media. So it’s all on the up…who would have thought my life would change so dramatically after a phone call to a radio station to request WHAM! Last Christmas? It’s a funny old world!
