History of The Dale Bamber Show (text edition)

The Birth of The Dale Bamber Show

The potential for the show started in December 2006. The ideas for the show came from Jude @ 105.4 Century FM North West (Now branded Century Radio) on 26/12/06 when she said I had potential to work in Radio. I rang the show for a song request (WHAM! - Last Christmas) and she wanted me to go on air. At the last minuite I hung up as i opted out of the idea of being on the radio…2 minuites later she rung me back live on air! 2 days later, 105.4 Century FM North West (Now branded Century Radio) rang back if I would appear on the station again. However instead of Jude I was talking to Pat Sharp, presenter of Fun house and Top of the pops. Pat repeated what Jude said that I had potential to work in radio and that if I had my own show it could be a big success as well as help me create the format of the show. Ribble Valley Radio took the show onto their Station 4 months later!

Ribble Valley Radio

The Dale Bamber show kicked off Saturday 14th April 2007 and was a massive success! The show started off on Saturday lunchtime between 12pm - 2pm however after just 2 weeks it made the jump from lunchtime radio to Prime time Radio (6pm - 8pm). Since then the popularity continued to increase! The Dale Bamber Show has been known for its obscure stunts live on air…for example on 26th August 2007 when I presented Girls Aloud Heaven! (the 6 hour show), also the strangest….yet hugly popular on air feature - Guess the Girl! where i would play either a popstars the rivals performance, a clip of a girls aloud song or gave you clues to 1 of the members and all you have to do is guess the girl out of the 5 members of Girls Aloud:

  • Nadine
  • Cheryl
  • Sarah
  • Kimberley
  • Nicola

and of course for me hosting the Last ever show on Ribble Valley Radio.

The show had 2 successful series n RVR. Series 1 broadcasting from 14th April to 25th June 2007 (The best of show for series 1 broadcasting on 26th June) and series 2 broadcasting from 15th July to 7th October 2007 (with the last ever show for Ribble Valley radio on 14th October 2007)

The Highest rated show was Girls Aloud heaven…as the show was advertised on the official Girls Aloud Website! The second highest rated show was the Last ever show on RVR. The third? That time when Jim Bowen came on The Dale Bamber Show…and that’s all we are saying about that!

The Show broke a world record in August 2007 with Girls Aloud Heaven! It made the show known to its International listeners thanks to the official Girls Aloud Website, Girls Aloud Heaven…between 6pm - Midnight it was non-stop Girls Aloud…girls aloud music, Girls Aloud chat…even an official Girls Aloud Charts…rating all the released music from Girls Aloud from Sound of the underground to Sexy! No No No!

  1. Something Kinda OOOOH
  2. Whole Lotta History
  3.  I’ll stand by you
  4. Biology
  5. Love Machine
  6. Jump
  7. No Good Advice
  8. The Show
  9. Wake Me Up
  10. I Think We’re alone now
  11. Sexy! No No No
  12. See The Day
  13. Long Hot Summer
  14. Walk this way
  15. Life got cold
  16. Sound of the underground

It was a first in the UK for a radio presenter to take a band to that level on the airwaves!!!!!!

The show also had its own official merchandise…with show T-shirts….Only 4 were made and as ya cant buy them in the shops…..They’re hard to get hold of!

However RVR hit problems in October 2007. On 8th October 2007 RVR announced that it would close its doors for the final time on 14th October after The Dale Bamber Show.  However specualtions grew on the 7th October after The Dale Bamber Show as he gave the impression that The Dale Bamber Show was ending. The Station closed down it in true Dale Bamber Show style - with the last song on the station being Girls Aloud - I’ll stand by you.

The start of something new?

Dale vowed that he wouldnt let the show go off the air for good. Dale started fighting to get the Ribble Valley the community radio station they deserve!  On 14th November 2007 it was announced that there will be a 3rd series of the show hitting the airwaves in 2008 on a brand new station…still yet to be named at the time! On 14th January 2008 it was announced that Ribble Valley Media would host the show on their channel.

Ribble Valley Media and the big comeback!

It took slighly longer than originally planned to launch Ribble Valley Media but the 3rd Series of The Dale Bamber Show returned on Sunday 9th August 2009. The show returned once again in a prime time slot at 8pm - 10pm to dominate the airwaves. Dale said however that the original format will still be there however some aspects of the show will change.

On Saturday 29th August 2009 Dale held a Michael Jackson Tribute show…a first for RVM to celebrate the fact that he would have been 51 that day if he was still alive. The 1 hour 20 min special broadcasted from 8pm.

September 2009 and The Dale Bamber Show got a new style! Dale wanted to show off his skills in radio by showing the listeners that he can do more than just play records. Dale started to create music documentaies based on various themes. These included Love, Kids, boys and girls and The Simon Cowell Story…especially written for The Dale Bamber Show!

The Dale Bamber Show Production Company

In October 2009 The Dale Bamber Show lent its name for a production company at Salford University…mainly because Dale is in that production company!

When filming took place in November 2009, Ryan Dior who was an actor for one of these films agreed to appear on The Dale Bamber Show. This was a first in 2 years since Dale interviewed Jim Bowen back in 2007. After this Dale had a string of guests…2 more people linked to The Dale Bamber Show Productions, Garry Graham Smith and Jenny Collins and to promote her new single and to talk about Britains Got Talent 11 year old Hollie Steel!

3rd Januay 2010 edition posponed

For the first time ever since the launch of The Dale Bamber Show in 2007, the show due to broadcast on 3rd January 2010 was posponed due to the snow. Ribble Valley Media cancelled all shows due to the health and saftey of the location of the studios. However The Dale Bamber Show was the only show to be re-scheduled and broadcasted on Wednesday 6th January 2010 at 10:30am

2010 - The Dale Bamber Show…Exposed!

A brand new spin off of The Dale Bamber Show was created in 2010. It was called “The Dale Bamber Show…Exposed - with the … being repelaced by a singer each week. Unlike the main Dale Bamber Show, Exposed! focuses on one artist each edition and plays acousic or easy listening songs by that artist. Dale at the time she show was comissioned said  ”Wow The Dale Bamber Show has a spin off show! Its going to be fun. Its a totally different style to the weekly editions of my show because Exposed! will be playing alot of acoustics by the artist of that show. The Dale Bamber Show is kind of like…pop and country fast paced music show whereas Exposed! is easy listening music.

Ok its very, very predictable that Taylor Swift was the first aritst I picked to expose and no suprise I have recieved alot of criticism for my choice…not just on this spin off but in general about The Dale Bamber Show and the general layout and the way it is broadcasted…however as for Exposed! I am choosing Taylor for the simple reason…its the pilot edition of exposed…therefore I believe to make a show successful you have to host a show that you are comfortable with. Plus Taylor’s music is easy listening.

And believe it or not…there is a target audience for both The Dale Bamber Show and The Dale Bamber Show…Exposed!”

Dale has also admitted the show has no intentions of out running the original show and had only been comissioned for 6 shows. After the run Dale said he has no intentions of returning Exposed! back to the airwaves!.

The Main Dale Bamber Show editions continued on Sunday nights alongside Exposed! bringing you new on air feature ‘The American Idol Talk’.

3rd Anniversary edition

On Sunday 11th April 2010, The Dale Bamber Show celebrated its 3rd anniversary. Dale brought back some classin on air features and broadcasted the best bits of the show! Click here for the best moments. On this show, Dale announced that things were about to change drastically on the show.

April 2010 to July 2010- New look…new co-presenter!

After the 3rd anniversary show Dale announced that he had a brand new co-presenter called Heather Horrocks. Dale and Heather met each other at RHB (Radio Hospital Blackburn) and after doing a pilot show for 30 minutes Dale offered Heather a full time position on The Dale Bamber Show which Heather jumped at the opportunity. So with Heather on board…we also had some new on air features! Dale continued with the American Idol talk up till the end of the competiton and celebrated with a extended show on 30th May 2010. Dale and Heather took part in the show’s talent competiton…called Dale’s Got Talent…which between the two parties has become very competitive!  Dale also brought back the original on air feature ‘The Weekly Tease’ and originally changed the format of the charts. Dale decided not to do the top 40 singles countdown and decided to just announce who was number 1 in the singles and album charts. However people asked for the original format of what the show used to do with the charts and after just 1 week…Dale went back to counting the Official UK top 40 singles charts. However Dale choose to end broadcasting in the Ribble Valley after 3 and a half years.

August 2010 - Date - Radio Hospitals Blackburn

It wasn’t the end of The Dale Bamber Show. With the announcment of the show leaving Ribble Valley Media, Radio Hospitals Blackburn jumped at the opportunity of getting the rights for the show to broadcast on the Radio Hospitals network. Dale agreed and both Dale and Heather moved to the station where they originally first met. Dale had a month away from the media scene and returned in August with a brand new style. The show was shortened to one hour to fit Dale’s life at the time of broadcasting hovever the show is still full of fun, laughter and music.

In September 2010 Heather chose to leave D.B Productions and focus on her own radio show and her journalist career. Dale continued the show as a solo presenter like the good old days!

Also in September The Dale Bamber Show broadcasted live from the centre of the hospital. RHB do these once every 3 months to raise awarness of the station and the services it gives the patients.
